Question by Joty: How easy to find are inexpensive clothes in China?
My best friend is going to visit her family in China this winter. I’m giving her some money and I want to be realistic as to how much stuff I should ask for. How many pants, shirts, shoes, accessories. Maybe makeup and hair tools? For those who live in China or are familiar with shopping there, please help me out. Thank you guys! (:

I go on shopping sprees every summer when I visit my relatives in China so I’ll try to give you as much info and tips from personal experience as possible.
Everything in China is getting fancier and more expensive. Big shopping malls will definitely not have anything cheap. If anything, it’s more expensive there than in America.
There’s these little wholesale markets outlet thingies that I go to. It’s like a gigantic treasure chest. You walk inside and there’s lines of booths selling things from hair scrunchies to trick toys. Bargaining is allowed here. You basically only bargain there. Obviously if things are cheap, they’re also low quality. So don’t expect anything to last for too long. Here’s a list of some prices in American dollars of some items (with hardcore bargaining):
jeans- 15-20
shorts- 10-15
shirts- 8-10
shoes (my fav)- 10
earrings- 1-3
jewelry in general- around 3-10
belts (my other fav. they’re so creative)- 8-10
makeup/nail polish- like way too cheap….like…sixty cents
makeup tools- around a dollar
brushes- 1-2
that hair wrap snap thing on as seen on tv- 4-6? don’t really remember
bras (my other other fav)- 8-12
these prices are totally approximate and my memory may be wrong. i think the things are actually cheaper than what i said. i just raised it a little because I didn’t want to dissapoint you or your friend she gets to china and finds out it’s not as cheap. hahaa

What city/province is she visiting? I might be able to give you a little more info about shops in that area.
